My fitness routine is broken . . . I haven't worked out in weeks . . . will I ever get my motivation back?

It's December 6th and Massachusetts is showcasing it's Winter features:  30-40 degree temps, piercing winds, rain/sleet mix, and snow accumulation.  At the same time, my motivation to work out has diminished.

I'm in a rut, and I need to get out . . .

Pete Sisco @AskMen wrote this blog with tips for your routine once you've found the motivation to get to the gym - it's a solid post with some great tips.

If you've yet to kick yourself in the a$$ (like me) and are searching for something to help take those steps toward the gym, try the following:

  • Get on the scale, snap a pic of your weight, and make it your cell phone background.  You want to shed some lbs?  Remind yourself of that number every day to motivate change.
  • Find a partner.  When your accountable to yourself AND to a friend, you're much likelier to stay committed to your routine.  This post on FitDay spells it out in more detail.
  • Schedule your workouts a week ahead.  In the past, my routine stayed in tact when I planned ahead.  When I blocked time for the gym on my calendar, and packed my bag the night before, I always went.  Lately, I'm putting off the preparation until the day of, and then I reason myself out of the work out.  Good planning is crucial.

Everyone Falls Out Of Their Routine - Not Everyone Gets Back Into It:

It's a mistake to think we're the only ones failing to stay committed to our routine.  It happens to everyone.  And at this time of year it's especially common because old man Winter beats you down with his cold temps and short days.

Give the above tips a try and let me know if they help.  If you have your own methods, please share!
