In recent years fitness wearables have surged in popularity. As of 2016, much has been written about the benefits of wearables like smart watches, health monitors, and activity trackers. This post looks at the Nike+ Sportwatch GPS vs. The Fitbit Flex.
I’ve used two wearables – the Fitbit Flex and the Nike+ SportWatch GPS – and this post is designed to help people who are considering purchasing a wearable as part of their efforts to stay fit and focused.
My first fitness wearable, I dove in with gusto from day one. The features were pretty cool:
- Step counter/distance traveled
- Calorie tracker
- Sleep quality tracker
The online dashboard was clean and presented the data clearly. But toward the end of month 9 wearing my Fitbit I got bored with the data. Knowing how many steps I took/calories I burned each day wasn't enough. Ultimately, I would say it effectively serves as a reminder to be active. If you're thinking what are good ways of staying fit and focused for my family this is a good option.
The Nike+ SportWatch GPS is my second fitness wearable (I’m wearing it as I write this). Initially I was skeptical – the watch is bigger than anything I’ve worn on my wrist. But, so far I’m sold:
- Slick time display
- GPS functionality (the GPS has synced in under 30 seconds when I’m about to start a run)
- Tracks distance covered + your exact location, running pace, calories burned, total time.
All the data can be viewed right on the device as I’m running, which motivates me to improve my performance. When I’m finished, I plug it into my computer and upload my data to Nike+.com (I LOVE seeing my run map drawn out in the dashboard). I can start my run by reviewing my previous runs, and focus on improving my time. I would say the watch is a step up from the Fitbit. It's ideal for someone who is already active each day and looking to take his/her fitness up a notch.
