I Need Motivation To Workout . . . So I Watch Movies (Part 1)

Posted by Kevin O'Dea on Dec 14, 2014 1:53:00 PM

If someone asked you to compile a Workout Motivationlist of methods that motivate you to workout, 'watch a movie' probably doesn't make the list.  Why would it?  Sitting still/eating snack foods doesn't really pair well with rigorous motion/calorie burning.  But, given the right movie choice, I'm arguing it can be done . . .

My movie list, and why:

1. Troy

It's number one on the list because I can distinctly remember walking out of the movie theater with a strong desire to lift and toss my car as demonstration of my strength.  More importantly, the opening scene is a memorable one-to-one battle in case you don't have time for all 163 minutes.

Despite Orlando Bloom's prominent role in the film, there are several inspiring fight scenes/battles that can help fuel your motivation to workout.

2. 300

Not much to say here.  You know the premise, and you've probably seen the trailer a dozen times.

If you're already motivated to exercise, try the beginner version of the workout the actors used to get in shape for the movie.

3. Rudy

The thing I like about Rudy for this list is its appeal to the emotional side of workout motivation.  The classic underdog story, and the tradition of Notre Dame Football, are qualities that distinguish it from the savage, brute-strength aspects of the first two films.  Plus, the music is awesome.
